India's COVID-19 recovery rate improves to 66.3 pct: health ministry

NEW DELHI, Aug. 4 (Xinhua) -- The recovery rate of COVID-19 patients in India increased to 66.30 percent, India's federal health ministry said on Tuesday.

"Till now, 1,230,509 patients have been cured and 586,298 patients are under active medical supervision," the ministry said.

During the last 24 hours, 52,050 fresh positive cases and 803 deaths were reported in the country.

India is the third worst-hit country in the world with 1,855,745 cases of COVID-19.

Of the total cases in the country, Maharashtra tops the tally with 450,196 cases, followed by Tamil Nadu with 263,222 and Andhra Pradesh with 166,586.

Meanwhile, the case fatality rate (CFR) has fallen to 2.1 percent.

"The mortality analysis of the present data shows that 50 percent of deaths have happened in the age group of 60 years and above, 37 percent deaths belong to 45 to 60 years age group, while 11 percent deaths belong to 26-44 years age group," a statement issued by the federal ministry of health said.

"In the gender-wise distribution, 68 percent of people who died were men and 32 percent women," it said. Enditem
