TOKYO, Aug. 6 (Xinhua) -- Tokyo stocks opened lower Thursday as exporters took a hit from the yen's appreciation against the U.S. dollar, while concerns over underwhelming domestic corporate earnings added to a nervy mood ahead of further reports later in the day from heavyweights including Toyota.

As of 9:15 a.m., the 225-issue Nikkei Stock Average dropped 54.66 points, or 0.24 percent, from Wednesday to 22,460.19.

The broader Topix index of all First Section issues on the Tokyo Stock Exchange, meanwhile, added 4.47 points, or 0.29 percent, at 1,550.24.

Food, farm and fishery and transportation equipment issues comprised those that declined the most in the opening minutes after the morning break. Enditem
