KABUL, Aug. 6 (Xinhua) -- Afghan Ministry of Public Health confirmed 108 new COVID-19 cases on Thursday, bringing the total number of infections in the country to 36,937.

A total of 753 tests were conducted within the past 24 hours, and 108 were found positive in 11 provinces out of 34 Afghan provinces, the ministry said in a statement.

Four patients died during the period, taking the death toll to 1,298, the statement said.

The total number of those having recovered from the virus reached 25,840 after 98 new recoveries were recorded since early Wednesday.

Laboratories across Afghanistan have completed 90,575 tests since February.

Local health experts believe that the actual number of infections could be higher than the official figures as an uncertain number of patients did not visit hospitals and the system of the war-battered country failed to register them. Enditem
