BEIJING, Aug. 6 (Xinhua) -- The following are the updates on the global fight against the COVID-19 pandemic.

BISHKEK -- Kyrgyzstan reported 549 new COVID-19 cases on Thursday, bringing its total to 38,659.

Ainura Akmatova, the head of the public health care department of the country's health ministry, told a daily news briefing that 37 of the new patients are medical workers, bringing the total number of contracted medical workers to 2,911, including 1,973 recoveries.

The virus-related death tally climbed to 1,447, with nine more recorded in the previous 24 hours.

MINSK -- Belarus reported 127 new confirmed COVID-19 cases on Thursday, taking its total to 68,503, according to the country's health ministry.

There have been 331 new recoveries in the past 24 hours, bringing the total to 63,756, the ministry added.

So far, 580 people have died of the disease in the country, including three over the past 24 hours, it said.

KUALA LUMPUR -- Malaysia reported 15 new COVID-19 infections, the Health Ministry said on Thursday, bringing the national total to 9,038.

Health Ministry Director-General Noor Hisham Abdullah said in a press briefing that five cases are imported and 10 more are local transmissions.

Another 11 cases have been released, bringing the total cured and discharged to 8,713 or 96.4 percent of all cases.

JAKARTA -- As the coronavirus has spread to all the Indonesian 34 provinces, President Joko Widodo has ordered regional leaders to impose sanctions on violations against the protocols, according to the Cabinet Secretariat website.

The order, which was stipulated in the 2020 Presidential Instruction No. 6 issued on Tuesday, stated that the sanctions may range from a written warning and social services to fines and temporary suspension of businesses and organizations.

TEHRAN -- Total COVID-19 infections in Iran hit 320,117 on Thursday after the registration of 2,634 new cases overnight, said Sima Sadat Lari, spokeswoman for Iran's Ministry of Health and Medical Education.

Over the past 24 hours, 174 new death cases were registered, taking the total fatalities in the country to 17,976, Lari said at her daily briefing, according to the state TV.

So far, 277,463 patients have recovered and 4,156 remain in critical condition, said Lari.

URUMQI -- Northwest China's Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region reported 27 new confirmed COVID-19 cases on Wednesday, all in the regional capital Urumqi, the regional health commission said Thursday in its daily report.

Urumqi also saw 12 new asymptomatic cases Wednesday.

The newly confirmed and asymptomatic cases were all found among people under medical observation and will not lead to new transmission through communities, said Shang Yulan, deputy secretary-general of the Urumqi municipal government. Enditem
