NAIROBI, Aug. 7 (Xinhua) -- Kenya's Ministry of Health said the total number of COVID-19 cases passed the 25,000 mark on Friday amid a steady spike in the number of infections across the country.

Mutahi Kagwe, cabinet secretary in the Ministry of Health, said 727 more patients tested positive for the virus from 6,814 samples in the last 24 hours, bringing the total number of infections to 25,138.

Kagwe noted that out of the new cases, 711 are Kenyan nationals while 16 are foreign nationals who are living in the country.

He said some 674 patients recovered in the past 24 hours, bringing the total number of recoveries to 11,118.

He added that 14 people succumbed to the disease, bringing the total number of fatalities to 413.

Kagwe noted that COVID-19 cases have continued to rise in the country in the past one month and each of the 47 counties has reported cases.

He however observed that the level of preparedness has remained a key objective to the ministry officials.

He urged Kenyans to keep safe by following the laid down procedures that were developed by the ministry of health. Enditem
