RAMALLAH, Aug. 7 (Xinhua) -- Various Palestinian factions on Friday called for forming a commission to investigate the killing of a Palestinian woman by Israeli soldiers' gunfire in northern West Bank city of Jenin.

The Palestinian Ministry of Health said that 23-year-old Dalia Samoudi succumbed to the critical wounds she sustained when an Israeli soldier shot her during a raid on Jenin earlier on Friday morning.

Representatives of Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas' Fatah Movement and other factions, and Samoudi's family members called for forming an international committee to investigate the young woman's death.

They made the call when hundreds of angry mourners joined Samoudi's funeral in the Jenin Refugee Camp. The mourners covered the woman's body with a Palestinian flag while angry gunfire was fired into the air.

Right after announcing the death of Samoudi, the Palestinian news agency WAFA said in a report that the Israeli soldiers killed Samoudi "in cold blood" while she was trying to protect her children from the soldiers' gunfire.

Earlier on Friday, doctors said that the gunshot hit her chest and penetrated the liver, pancreas, and aorta, adding that she underwent surgery and was sent to intensive care until her death was announced.

In Gaza, the Islamic Hamas movement said in a press statement that it condemns "the awful crime of killing a defenseless woman in Jenin."

Hamas, which has been ruling the Gaza Strip since 2007, called on the international community "to punish the occupation's leaders for their crimes against our people." Enditem
