DAMASCUS, Aug. 7 (Xinhua) -- Syria on Friday reported 61 new COVID-19 cases, bringing the tally of infections to 1,060 in the country, the health ministry said in a statement.

The number of infections is increasing on a daily basis amid warning from medical teams that the real number could be much higher.

The declared number by the health ministry is only for cases that have been tested positive for the virus instead of all suspected cases.

Most of the cases were reported in the capital of Damascus and its countryside. Enditem
