BEIJING, Aug. 8 (Xinhua) -- The following are the updates on the global fight against the COVID-19 pandemic.

BERLIN -- Germany's COVID-19 cases rose by 1,122 within one day to 215,336, the Robert Koch Institute (RKI) said on Saturday.

The death toll in Germany rose by 12 to stand at 9,195, it added.

TEHRAN -- Iran's confirmed coronavirus cases rose to 324,692 on Saturday after an overnight registration of 2,125 new infections, official IRNA new agency reported.

Sima Sadat Lari, spokeswoman for Iran's Ministry of Health and Medical Education, said at her daily briefing that out of the new cases in the past 24 hours, 1,049 have been hospitalized.

KABUL -- An estimated 10 million Afghans have contracted with COVID-19 since the pandemic started spreading nationwide in February, the county's Ministry of Public Health said in a statement reaching Xinhua on Sunday.

According to findings of a national survey conducted by the ministry and based on antibody tests applied on 9,514 people and technically supported by World Health Organization (WHO), in 34 Afghan provinces, 10 million people, making nearly one third of the country's population, have infected with the disease.

KUALA LUMPUR -- Malaysia reported seven new COVID-19 infections, the Health Ministry said on Saturday, bringing the national total to 9,070.

Health Ministry Director-General Noor Hisham Abdullah said in a press statement that six cases are imported and one more is a local transmission.

JAKARTA -- The COVID-19 cases in Indonesia rose by 2,277 within one day to 123,503, with the death toll adding by 65 to 5,658, the Health Ministry said on Saturday.

According to the ministry, 1,749 more people were discharged from hospitals, bringing the total number of recovered patients to 79,306.

GENEVA -- The total number of confirmed COVID-19 cases in the Americas has crossed the 10 million mark, accounting for over half of the global tally, according to data released by the World Health Organization (WHO) on Friday.

As of 10 a.m. CET (0800 GMT) on Friday, 154,118 new COVID-19 cases had been reported in the Americas during the past 24 hours, taking the total tally to 10,135,322, which took up more than 50 percent of the global tally -- 18,902,735. Meanwhile, 4,598 deaths from the COVID-19 infection had been recorded in the region, bringing the total fatalities to 376,606, the data showed.

MANILA -- The number of confirmed COVID-19 cases in the Philippines surged to 126,885 after the Department of Health (DOH) reported 4,226 new daily cases on Saturday.

The DOH said that the number of recoveries further rose to 67,117 after it reported additional 287 patients have survived the disease.

BEIRUT -- Lebanon has confirmed a record high of 279 new COVID-19 cases across the country in the past 24 hours till Friday after two massive blasts here left hospitals overwhelmed.

The number of COVID-19 infections has reached 5,951, while the death toll stood at 70, the Lebanese Health Ministry said.

WUHAN -- Central China's Hubei Province reported one newly imported COVID-19 case and no increase in domestically transmitted cases Friday, the provincial health commission said Saturday.

The confirmed patient, arriving at Wuhan Tianhe International Airport from Tajikistan on Thursday, was put under quarantine upon arrival and diagnosed as a confirmed case on Friday. Enditem
