TEHRAN, Aug. 8 (Xinhua) -- Iran on Saturday urged the International Atomic Energy Organization (IAEA) to investigate what it calls the "covert" nuclear program of Saudi Arabia, official IRNA news agency reported.

"Saudi Arabia is developing and implementing a very non-transparent nuclear program," said Kazem Gharibabadi, Iran's ambassador and permanent representative to international organizations, in Vienna.

"Despite the fact that Saudi Arabia is a member of the Non-Proliferation Treaty and has a comprehensive bilateral safeguard agreement with the agency (IAEA), it still refuses to abide by its commitments to the agency's inspections," Gharibabadi was quoted as saying.

The international community will not accept Saudi "deviation" from a peaceful nuclear program and will confront it, he added.

Saudi Arabia has not yet responded to Gharibabadi's comments. Enditem
