BEIJING, Aug. 9 (Xinhua) -- The following are the updates on the global fight against the COVID-19 pandemic.

BEIJING -- Chinese health authority said Sunday that it received reports of 23 new confirmed COVID-19 cases on the Chinese mainland Saturday, including 15 locally transmitted ones.

All locally-transmitted cases were reported in Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region, the National Health Commission said in its daily report.

RIO DE JANEIRO -- Brazil has registered more than 3 million cases of the novel coronavirus with over 100,000 deaths, the government reported on Saturday.

The Ministry of Health said that in the last 24 hours, 905 more deaths and 49,970 new cases were reported, bringing the national death toll to 100,477 and the total caseload to 3,012,412.

SANTO DOMINGO -- The Dominican Republic on Saturday reported a total of 78,778 novel coronavirus cases with 1,289 deaths.

The previous day saw 1,069 new cases of infection and 30 more fatalities, the Public Health Ministry said.

BUENOS AIRES -- The Argentine government announced on Saturday that it would deliver an economic subsidy to relatives of people who have died from the novel coronavirus.

The decree, published on Saturday on the the Official Gazett, grants 15,000 pesos (about 206 U.S. dollars) to the relatives of the victims, who were unemployed or working in the informal economy at the time of their deaths. Enditem
