NUR-SULTAN -- Kazakhstan has postponed the national population census to October 2021 due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the press office of the Ministry of National Economy announced on Saturday.

Kazakhstan is scheduled to conduct a national population census next October using a combination of an online survey, home visits and inspections. (Kazakhstan-Population Census-COVID-19)

TALUQAN -- Four fighters including three militants were killed as a clash broke out in Yangi Qala district of northern Afghanistan's Takhar province on Sunday, provincial government spokesman Mohammad Jawad Hajari said.

The clash erupted after a group of Taliban insurgents attacked security checkpoints of pro-government militiamen in Kaldish village triggering a gun battle and the attacking militants fled away after leaving three bodies behind, the official added. (Afghanistan-Clash)

LAGOS -- At least eight gunmen have been killed in a combat operation by police in Nigeria's northwestern state of Katsina, a police spokesman said on Sunday.

A group of more than 40 unidentified gunmen attacked a village in the state on Thursday, state police spokesman Gambo Isah said in a statement made available to Xinhua in Lagos. (Nigeria-Police-Gunman)

WASHINGTON -- U.S. Secretary of Defense Mark Esper confirmed on Saturday that U.S. troops in Afghanistan would be reduced to less than 5,000 by the end of November.

"We're going down to a number less than 5,000 by the end of November. We need to brief Congress from what that looks like," Esper told Fox News in a Saturday night interview.
