Turkey reports 1,182 new COVID-19 cases, 240,804 in total

ANKARA, Aug. 9 (Xinhua) -- Turkish Health Minister Fahrettin Koca reported 1,182 new COVID-19 cases on Sunday, raising the total diagnosed cases in the country to 240,804.

Meanwhile, 15 people died in the past 24 hours, taking the total death toll to 5,844, the minister tweeted.

Turkish health professionals conducted 61,446 tests in the past 24 hours, bringing the overall number of tests to 5,263,816, he stated.

A total of 1,103 patients recovered in the last 24 hours, raising the total recoveries to 223,759 in Turkey since the outbreak, Koca added.

The rate of pneumonia in COVID-19 patients is 8.1 percent and the number of seriously ill patients is 596, he stated.

Turkey reported the first COVID-19 case on March 11.

Turkey and China have supported each other in the fight against COVID-19.
