MEXICO CITY -- Mexico reported 4,376 new COVID-19 cases within the past 24 hours, taking the national count to 480,278 cases, the country's health ministry said on Sunday.

Meanwhile, 292 additional deaths were reported, taking the death toll to 52,298.

WINDHOEK -- Namibia is set to auction the bulk of its fishing quotas to the highest bidder at an international auction to generate urgent foreign currency fund to fight COVID-19, Fisheries Minister Albert Kawana said Sunday.

The government in need of financial resources on an emergency basis to mitigate the impact of the pandemic is in the process of auctioning off its governmental objective fishing quota to foreign fishing companies, Kawana said in an official letter to Matti Amukwa, chairman of the Confederation of Namibian Fishing Associations.

ANKARA -- Turkish Health Minister Fahrettin Koca reported 1,182 new COVID-19 cases on Sunday, raising the total diagnosed cases in the country to 240,804.

Meanwhile, 15 people died in the past 24 hours, taking the total death toll to 5,844, the minister tweeted.

CAIRO -- Egypt reported on Sunday 178 new COVID-19 infections, raising the total cases registered in the country since the outbreak of the pandemic to 95,492, said the Egyptian health ministry.

Although the number marks a slight increase in daily infections in a week, it is still the eighth consecutive day for Egypt's COVID-19 daily infections to fall below 200.

WASHINGTON -- Governor Mike DeWine of U.S. midwestern state of Ohio on Sunday warned Americans against seeing coronavirus tests as unreliable after he received a false positive result ahead of President Donald Trump's visit to the key swing state.

"I think what people should not take away from my experience (is) that testing is not reliable or doesn't work," DeWine told CNN.

RIO DE JANEIRO -- Brazil on Sunday reported 572 deaths from the novel coronavirus in the previous 24 hours, raising the death toll to 101,049.

In the 24-hour period, tests detected 23,010 new cases of infection, raising the total caseload to 3,035,422.

JERUSALEM -- Outdoor entertainment and cultural events in Israel will resume immediately under COVID-19 restrictions, said a statement issued on Sunday by Israeli prime minister's office and the ministry of culture.

At the end of a meeting held by Israel's Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu as well as finance, health and culture ministers with performers and producers' representatives, it was agreed that shows and concerts would be allowed under restrictions.

SANTIAGO -- The Chilean health ministry reported on Sunday that the number of cases of the novel coronavirus in the country had risen to 373,056, with 10,077 deaths.

The ministry also reported that 2,036 new cases and 66 deaths were registered in the last 24 hours.

ADDIS ABABA -- The Africa Center for Disease Control and Prevention (Africa CDC) on Sunday revealed that the number of COVID-19 cases across the African continent surged to 1,036,564.

The Africa CDC, a specialized healthcare agency of the 55-member African Union Commission, in its latest situation update issued on Sunday, said that the number of COVID-19 cases across the African continent has risen from 1,022,084 on Saturday to 1,036,564 as of Sunday, registering about 14,480 new COVID-19 cases across the continent.

BEIJING -- Beijing's municipal education authority announced on Sunday the dates when schools in the capital city will start their autumn semester.

Senior high schools in Beijing will start the new semester on Aug. 29, while primary schools and junior high schools will start their new school year on three dates -- Aug. 29, Sept. 1 and Sept. 7, according to a notice issued by the municipal leading group office for epidemic prevention and control.
