WASHINGTON -- The differences between the United States and China "should be seen as opportunities, possibilities for mutual learning, for cooperation," Chinese Ambassador to the United States Cui Tiankai has said.

"I don't know why people like the term 'Cold War' so much. KABUL -- Eight civilians were killed and two wounded in two separate bomb explosions in Afghanistan, authorities said Monday.

Earlier on Monday, two people were wounded after a sticky bomb attached to a four-wheel-drive car was detonated at morning rush hour in Makroryan-e-Charum locality, Police District 9 of national capital, Kabul, the capital police said. (Afghanistan-Bomb Attack)

NIAMEY -- Eight people including six French tourists and two Nigeriens (a guide and a driver) were killed on Sunday by armed individuals in the Koure area, according to the Nigerien ministry of interior and public security.

The Elysee Palace confirmed the incident. "French nationals were killed on Sunday in Niger," President Emmanuel Macron's office told French media and denounced the attack, adding that Macron had spoke by phone with Nigerien President Mahamadou Issoufou. (Niger-France-Attack)

BRUSSELS -- European Council President Charles Michel on Sunday urged an independent investigation into the cause of the deadly explosion that rocked the city of Beirut and inflicted heavy casualties last week.
