SUVA, Aug. 10 (Xinhua) -- Fiji Airways, Fiji's national airline, has increased its weekly freight services to up to 10 flights per week.

According to Fiji Broadcasting Corporation (FBC) on Monday, the services between Nadi, Fiji's third largest city and Auckland have increased to three flights per week, while the Nadi-Sydney, and Nadi-Los Angeles flights operate up to twice a week.

Freight services to China's Hong Kong and Port Vila, capital of Vanuatu, remain at one per week.

Fiji Airways Managing Director and CEO Andre Viljoen said the airline remains committed to dedicated freight services vital to the supply chain for the exports sector on the island nation.

Between April 1 and June 30, Fiji Airways carried about 1,205 tonnes of exports consisting of fresh produce, garments, kava and seafood.

Inbound freight consisted of consignments for businesses, as well as almost 52 tonnes of essential medical supplies including vaccines, test kits, medicine and humanitarian aid.

Viljoen said Fiji Airways' freight services keep the economy moving and benefit primary producers, farmers, fisherfolk, workers, exporters, freight forwarders and consumers alike. This allows the island nation to keep businesses operational despite the implications brought about by COVID-19. Enditem
