BEIJING -- Chinese stocks closed lower on Tuesday, with the benchmark Shanghai Composite Index down 1.15 percent at 3,340.29 points.

The Shenzhen Component Index closed 1.40 percent lower at 13,466.27 points.

KUALA LUMPUR -- The Malaysian stock market ended lower here on Tuesday.

The Kuala Lumpur Composite Index (KLCI) was at 1,564.74 down 6.92 points or 0.44 percent, and the Emas was at 11,266.56 down 18.00 points or 0.16 percent.

MUMBAI -- Indian markets closed higher on Tuesday.

Among sectors, except pharma and IT other indices ended in the green. BSE Midcap and Smallcap indices ended marginally lower.

HO CHI MINH CITY -- VN-Index, the stock market index of Ho Chi Minh City bourse in southern Vietnam, closed at 843.08 points on Tuesday, down 0.12 points, or 0.01 percent against the previous trading day.

Some 249 million shares worth nearly 4.2 trillion Vietnamese dong (181.9 million U.S. dollars) changed hands at the Ho Chi Minh City Stock Exchange.

SINGAPORE -- Singapore stocks closed lower on Tuesday, with the benchmark Straits Times Index (STI) going down 0.05 percent, or 1.36 points, to close at 2,544.15.

A total of 1.66 billion shares changed hands with a turnover of 1.76 billion Singapore dollars (about 1.28 billion U.S. dollars). Losers outnumbered gainers by 254 to 215.

JAKARTA -- The IDX Composite, an index of all stocks listed on the Indonesia Stock Exchange (IDX) in Jakarta, closed at 5,190.17 points on Tuesday, up by 32.33 points, or 0.63 percent against that on the previous trading day.

Approximately 10.33 billion shares worth more than 9.02 trillion Indonesian rupiahs (about 618.04 million U.S. dollars) changed hands at the stock market.

PHNOM PENH -- Cambodia's stocks finished lower on Tuesday, with the Cambodia Securities Exchange (CSX) Index down 2.64 points, or 0.4 percent, to close at 665.17.

A total of 11,673 shares worth 190.2 million riels (46,441 U.S. dollars) was traded, the CSX said, adding that 88 percent of the traded shares belonged to the ACLEDA Bank Plc (ABC), whose price dropped by 0.57 percent to 4.22 dollars per share.

HANOI-- Stock market index of Vietnam's capital Hanoi, HNX-Index, closed at 116.30 points on Tuesday, up 2.65 points or 2.34 percent from the previous trading session.

More than 59 million shares worth approximately 842.6 billion Vietnamese dong (36.6 million U.S. dollars) were traded at the Hanoi Stock Exchange on Tuesday.

SYDNEY -- The Australian share market lifted for a second day on Tuesday as the big banks continued to lead gains.

At the market close the benchmark S&P/ASX 200 index was up 28.50 points or 0.47 percent at 6,138.70, while the broader All Ordinaries index was up 25.00 points or 0.40 percent at 6,272.10.

HONG KONG -- Hong Kong stocks closed up 513.25 points, or 2.11 percent, to 24,890.68 points on Tuesday.

The benchmark Hang Seng Index traded between 24,662.04 and 25,031.57. Turnover totaled 141.36 billion Hong Kong dollars (about 18.24 billion U.S. dollars).

WELLINGTON -- New Zealand stock market's indicator, the S&P/NZX 50 index, dropped by 0.33 percent to 11,645 on Tuesday.

The drop was led by General Capital Limited, which went down by 3 percent to 0.097 NZ dollars (0.064 U.S. dollars), while New Talisman Gold Mines Limited jumped by 16.67 percent to 0.007 NZ dollars.

TOKYO -- Tokyo stocks closed higher Tuesday as a comparatively soft yen encouraged buying amid hopes U.S. lawmakers will agree on a sizable stimulus package to help the virus-battered economy.

The 225-issue Nikkei Stock Average gained 420.30 points, or 1.88 percent, from Friday to close the day at 22,750.24, marking its highest closing level since July 22.

MANILA -- Philippine shares closed 0.39 percent higher on Tuesday.
