PRAGUE, Aug. 11 (Xinhua) -- A 54-year-old man has been charged with murder and endangerment in connection with Saturday's arson incident in eastern Czech Republic's Karvina region that left 11 dead, local media reported on Tuesday.

The district court in Karvina accepted the prosecution's motion to detain the man pending trial.

According to the investigation so far, the suspect used gasoline purchased at a gas station shortly before the incident to light the apartment on the 11th floor of the building in Bohumin on fire, reported the Czech News Agency.

Eleven people died, including six in the burning apartment and five who jumped out from windows on the 12th floor. Another ten people were injured in the fire. The suspect was also burned in the attack.

The motive for the crime was family disputes while the suspect claimed that he was not aware of the consequences of his actions, it reported.

Three people -- two in serious condition -- are still in hospital, according to the report. Enditem
