Palestine's total COVID-19 cases poised to pass 20,000

RAMALLAH, Aug. 11 (Xinhua) -- Palestine on Tuesday registered 476 new COVID-19 cases, bringing the total number of confirmed cases to 19,594.

The death toll from the coronavirus climbed to 114, after two Palestinian women died on Tuesday, the Palestinian Health Ministry said. The tally of recoveries rose to 11,168.

The ministry added that there are currently 8,312 patients under medical observation, of whom 21 are in the intensive care units, including five on ventilators.

Meanwhile, Palestinian Health Minister Mai al-Kaila held a meeting with Guo Wei, director of the Office of the People's Republic of China to Palestine in the West Bank city of Ramallah, over enhancing bilateral cooperation in the health sector, including combating the COVID-19 pandemic.

Al-Kaila expressed gratitude to China for lending a helping hand to Palestine during its tough time in fighting the pandemic, the ministry said in a statement.

For his part, Guo said China is ready to assist Palestine's health sector, especially in fighting the COVID-19 pandemic. Enditem
