BEIJING, Aug. 12 (Xinhua) -- The following are the updates on the global fight against the COVID-19 pandemic.

SAO PAULO -- Brazil on Tuesday recorded 52,160 new COVID-19 cases and 1,274 more deaths from the disease, the health ministry has said.

So far, Brazil has 3,109,630 confirmed COVID-19 cases nationwide, with the country's total fatalities reaching 103,026.

According to the ministry, the hardest-hit state is Sao Paulo, the country's most industrialized and populated state, with 25,571 deaths and 639,562 cases of infection.

ACCRA -- Ghana registered 192 new COVID-19 cases on Tuesday, bringing the national count to 41,404, according to the latest update by the Ghana Health Service (GHS).

Meanwhile, 328 more patients were discharged from hospital, taking the total number of recoveries to 39,055, the GHS said.

The total death toll remained at 215 with no new deaths recorded in the past day, it added.

QUITO -- Ecuador reported 862 new COVID-19 cases and 19 more deaths from the disease in the last 24 hours, bringing the national caseload to 95,563 and death toll to 5,951, the Ministry of Public Health said Tuesday.

The province of Pichincha, where the capital city of Quito is located, has become the new epicenter of the epidemic in the country, with a total of 18,275 confirmed cases and 773 deaths, surpassing the province of Guayas, which reported 17,936 cases and 1,664 deaths.

Most of the cases in Pichincha have been registered in Quito, which saw a spike in new cases after preventive health measures in the city were relaxed, according to the health ministry.

BEIJING -- Chinese health authority said Wednesday that it received reports of 25 new confirmed COVID-19 cases on the Chinese mainland Tuesday, including 16 imported cases and nine locally-transmitted ones.

All of the nine new locally-transmitted cases were reported in Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region, the National Health Commission said in its daily report.

One new suspected COVID-19 case, which was imported from outside the mainland, was reported in Shanghai Municipality.

URUMQI -- Northwest China's Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region reported nine new confirmed COVID-19 cases on Tuesday, all in the regional capital Urumqi, the regional health commission said Wednesday in its daily report.

The region also saw eight new asymptomatic cases in Urumqi Tuesday.

CAIRO -- Egypt's Health Ministry reported on Tuesday 168 new COVID-19 cases, raising the total infections in the country to 95,834.

It is the 10th consecutive day for Egypt's COVID-19 daily infections to fall below 200. The daily count started to exceed 200 on April 23 before hitting a record 1,774 on June 19. Enditem
