TOKYO, Aug. 12 (Xinhua) -- Tokyo stocks edged higher Wednesday morning as the yen's softer tone encouraged buying although some investors opted to lock in gains.

The 225-issue Nikkei Stock Average gained 38.91 points, or 0.17 percent, from Tuesday to 22,789.15.

The broader Topix index of all First Section issues on the Tokyo Stock Exchange, meanwhile, added 12.43 points, or 0.78 percent, to 1,598.39.

Bank, oil and coal product, and rubber product issues comprised those that gained the most by the morning break. Enditem
