BEIJING -- Chinese stocks closed lower on Wednesday partly due to data showing tepid growth in bank lending, with the benchmark Shanghai Composite Index down 0.63 percent at 3,319.27 points.

The Shenzhen Component Index closed 1.17 percent lower at 13,308.52 points.

MUMBAI -- Indian markets closed flat on a negative note Wednesday on the back of selling seen in the metal, pharma and FMCG stocks.

The benchmark S&P, BSE Sensex closed at 38,369.63, 37.38 points or 0.10 percent down compared to its previous close at 38,407.01.

HO CHI MINH CITY -- VN-Index, the stock market index of Ho Chi Minh City bourse in southern Vietnam, closed at 846.92 points on Wednesday, up 3.84 points, or 0.46 percent against the previous trading day.

On Wednesday, VN30-Index, a benchmark index for the southern bourse, which tracks the 30 leading stocks by both market capitalization and liquidity, closed at 788.42 points, up 3.85 points or 0.49 percent.

VIENTIANE -- The Lao stock market closed on Wednesday with a decrease of 2.28 percent compared to the previous trading day.

The Lao Securities Exchange composite index decreased by 13.50 points, reaching 577.57 points after closing.

KUALA LUMPUR -- The Malaysian stock market ended lower here on Wednesday.

The Kuala Lumpur Composite Index (KLCI) was at 1,556.64, down 8.18 points or 0.52 percent, and the Emas was at 11,147.86, down 118.70 points or 1.05 percent.

SINGAPORE -- Singapore stocks closed higher on Wednesday, with the benchmark Straits Times Index (STI) going up 0.75 percent, or 19.05 points, to close at 2,563.2.

A total of 1.63 billion shares changed hands with a turnover of 1.63 billion Singapore dollars (about 1.19 billion U.S. dollars). Losers outnumbered gainers by 220 to 215.

HANOI -- Stock market index of Vietnam's capital Hanoi, HNX-Index, closed at 116.10 points on Wednesday, down 0.19 points or 0.17 percent from the previous trading session.

Prices of 78 stocks went up, 71 stocks dropped, while 205 stocks remained unchanged.

PHNOM PENH -- Cambodia's stocks finished lower on Wednesday, with the Cambodia Securities Exchange (CSX) Index down 7.99 points, or 1.2 percent, to close at 657.18.

A total of 255,171 shares worth 1.31 billion riels (321,586 U.S. dollars) was traded, the CSX said, adding that 86 percent of the traded shares belonged to power technology provider Pestech (Cambodia) and 10 percent belonged to ACLEDA Bank Plc (ABC).

JAKARTA -- The IDX Composite, an index of all stocks listed on the Indonesia Stock Exchange (IDX) in Jakarta, closed at 5,233.45 points on Wednesday, up by 43.29 points, or 0.83 percent against that on the previous trading day.

Approximately 11.42 billion shares worth more than 11.31 trillion Indonesian rupiahs (about 767.15 million U.S. dollars) changed hands at the stock market.

HONG KONG -- Hong Kong stocks closed up 353.34 points, or 1.42 percent, to 25,244.02 points on Wednesday.

The benchmark Hang Seng Index traded between 24,685.44 and 25,291.8. Turnover totaled 144.08 billion Hong Kong dollars (about 18.59 billion U.S. dollars).

WELLINGTON -- New Zealand stock market's indicator, the S&P/NZX 50 index, dropped by 1.32 percent to 11,492 on Wednesday due to the resumption of Alert Level 3 lockdown in the country's largest city after four community COVID-19 cases were announced.

SYDNEY -- The Australian share market edged lower on Wednesday, as the big miners dragged and the Commonwealth Bank underperformed its rivals.

At the market close the benchmark S&P/ASX 200 index was down 6.70 points or 0.11 percent at 6,132.00, while the broader All Ordinaries index was down 15.10 points or 0.24 percent at 6,257.00.

TOKYO -- Tokyo stocks ended higher Wednesday as a comparatively weak yen supported buying, although profit-taking amid the holiday period capped the market's upside.

The 225-issue Nikkei Stock Average gained 93.72 points, or 0.41 percent, from Tuesday to close the day at 22,843.96.

SEOUL -- South Korean shares ended higher Wednesday.

The benchmark Korea Composite Stock Price Index (KOSPI) gained 13.68 points, or 0.57 percent, to settle at 2,432.35. Trading volume stood at 752.9 million shares worth 16.4 trillion won (13.8 billion U.S. dollars).

MANILA -- Philippine shares closed 0.69 percent higher on Wednesday.
