KABUL, Aug. 12 (Xinhua) -- Six children were killed and one child wounded after a wall of a house collapsed in Afghanistan's eastern province of Paktia on Tuesday night, a statement said on Wednesday.

"The incident occurred in Karizkali village of Sayyed Karam district. Provincial officials of State Ministry for Disaster Management and Humanitarian Affairs visited the family and expressed condolences over the incident," the statement issued by the ministry said.

The officials also provided the affected family 300,000 afghani (about 3,900 U.S. dollars) along with food and non-food items, the statement added.

Heavy rains had been pounding in the mountainous region for the last few days.

Wall and roof collapse incidents frequently happen in Afghanistan as most of the houses and shops in the countryside are built with mud and woods.

Last year, a father and his son died after a muddy wall collapsed in neighboring Wardak province. Enditem
