Palestine records 499 new COVID-19 cases, toll up to 20,093

RAMALLAH, Aug. 12 (Xinhua) -- A senior Palestinian official announced Wednesday that 499 new COVID-19 cases were recorded in the Palestinian territories during the past 24 hours, bringing the total number of infected to 20,093.

Mai al-Kaila, the Palestinian Authority Minister of Health, told a news briefing in Ramallah that the Health Ministry recorded one death case of an 80-year-old woman from the district of Hebron and recorded 346 recovered cases in the last 24 hours.

She added that since the outbreak of the deadly virus in Palestine in March, the Health Ministry recorded 20,093 cases, including 114 deaths, 11,514 recovered cases, and 8,465 cases still receive medical care all over the Palestinian territories.

"Approximately 57.3 percent of the total number of infected cases with the virus all over the Palestinian territories had recovered, while 42.1 cases still infected, and the rate of deaths remained at 0.6 percent," she said.

Al-Kaila added that there are 21 Palestinian patients in critical conditions and admitted at intensive care units in various hospitals in the West Bank, including four linked to ventilators.

Earlier on Wednesday, al-Kaila discussed coronavirus' situation in Palestine with representatives of the World Health Organizing (WHO) during a meeting held at her office in Ramallah, WAFA news agency reported. Enditem
