TOKYO, Aug. 14 (Xinhua) -- Tokyo stocks opened mixed Friday as investors both bought on the yen's softer tone and opted to secure gains following the market's solid point gain this week.

As of 9:15 a.m., the 225-issue Nikkei Stock Average added 50.16 points, or 0.22 percent, from Thursday to 23,299.77.

The broader Topix index of all First Section issues on the Tokyo Stock Exchange, meanwhile, lost 0.54 point, or 0.03 percent, at 1,623.61.

Pharmaceutical and precision instrument issues led gainers, while mining and real estate issues comprised notable decliners in the opening minutes after the morning bell. Enditem
