BEIJING -- Chinese stocks closed higher on Friday, with the benchmark Shanghai Composite Index up 1.19 percent at 3,360.1 points.

The Shenzhen Component Index closed 1.49 percent higher at 13,489.01 points.

BANGKOK -- The Stock Exchange of Thailand (SET) index on Friday moved down 19.64 points, or 1.46 percent, to close at 1,327.05 points.

Some 20.20 billion shares worth 58.05 billion baht (about 1.88 billion U.S. dollars) changed hands.

TOKYO -- Tokyo stocks ended essentially flat on Friday as buying on a weaker yen gave exporters including medical machinery issues a boost, although this was offset by profit-taking following the market's recent rise.

The 225-issue Nikkei Stock Average edged up 39.75 points, or 0.17 percent, from Thursday to close the day at 23,289.36.

MUMBAI -- Indian markets closed extremely lower on Friday.

Except metal and pharma all other sectoral indices ended in the red. BSE Midcap and Smallcap indices ended 0.5-1 percent lower.

HO CHI MINH CITY -- VN-Index, the stock market index of Ho Chi Minh City bourse in southern Vietnam, closed at 850.74 points on Friday, down 4.31 points, or 0.5 percent against the previous trading day.

Some 304.7 million shares worth nearly 5.2 trillion Vietnamese dong (224.5 million U.S. dollars) changed hands at the Ho Chi Minh City Stock Exchange. Specifically, foreign investors bought 12.3 million shares totaling 318 billion Vietnamese dong (13.8 million U.S. dollars), and sold 26.6 million shares totaling 525 billion Vietnamese dong (22.8 million U.S. dollars).

VIENTIANE -- The Lao stock market closed on Friday with a decrease of 0.21 percent compared to the previous trading day.

The Lao Securities Exchange composite index decreased by 1.21 points, reaching 578.08 points after closing.

KUALA LUMPUR -- The Malaysian stock market ended lower here on Friday.

The Kuala Lumpur Composite Index (KLCI) was at 1,564.59 down 11.83 points or 0.75 percent, and the Emas was at 11,144.53 down 125.12 points or 1.11 percent.

SINGAPORE -- Singapore stocks closed lower on Friday, with the benchmark Straits Times Index (STI) going down 0.56 percent, or 14.65 points, to close at 2,581.32.

A total of 2.3 billion shares changed hands with a turnover of 1.25 billion Singapore dollars (about 910.54 million U.S. dollars). Losers outnumbered gainers by 263 to 184.

JAKARTA -- The IDX Composite, an index of all stocks listed on the Indonesia Stock Exchange (IDX) in Jakarta, closed at 5,247.69 points on Friday, up by 8.44 points, or 0.16 percent against that on the previous trading day.

Approximately 9.06 billion shares worth more than 7.96 trillion Indonesian rupiahs (about 537.57 million U.S. dollars) changed hands at the stock market.

HONG KONG -- Hong Kong stocks closed down 47.66 points, or 0.19 percent, to 25,183.01 points on Friday.

HANOI -- Stock market index of Vietnam's capital, HNX-Index, closed at 116.23 points on Friday, down 0.64 points or 0.54 percent from the previous trading session.

More than 157.4 million shares worth more than 3.1 trillion Vietnamese dong (135 million U.S. dollars) were traded at the Hanoi Stock Exchange on Friday. Specifically, foreign investors bought 398,939 shares valued at over 3.1 billion Vietnamese dong (136,600 U.S. dollars), and sold more than 2.6 million shares valued at over 33.1 billion Vietnamese dong (1.4 million U.S. dollars).

PHNOM PENH -- Cambodia's stocks finished lower on Friday, with the Cambodia Securities Exchange (CSX) Index down 0.62 point, or 0.09 percent, to close at 663.14 points.

A total of 38,408 shares worth 312.6 million riels (76,314 U.S. dollars) were traded, the CSX said, adding that 60 percent of the traded shares belonged to power technology provider Pestech Cambodia Plc (PEPC), 20 percent to the ACLEDA Bank Plc (ABC), and 16 percent to the Sihanoukville Autonomous Port (PAS).

WELLINGTON -- New Zealand stock market's indicator, the S&P/NZX 50 index, dropped by 0.42 percent to 11,452 on Friday.

The drop was led by New Talisman Gold Mines Limited, which went down by 12.5 percent to 0.007 NZ dollars (0.0046 U.S. dollars), while Good Spirits Hospitality Limited jumped by 11.86 percent to 0.066 NZ dollars.

SYDNEY -- The Australian share market rallied on Friday, adding 2 percent for the week as tech stocks surged.

At the market close the benchmark S&P/ASX 200 index was up 35.20 points or 0.58 percent at 6,126.20, while the broader All Ordinaries index was up 37.80 points or 0.61 percent at 6,261.70.

SEOUL -- South Korean shares ended lower Friday.

The benchmark Korea Composite Stock Price Index (KOSPI) dipped 30.04 points, or 1.23 percent, to settle at 2,407.49. Trading volume stood at 955.6 million shares worth 16.4 trillion won (13.8 billion U.S. dollars).
