RAMALLAH, Aug. 14 (Xinhua) -- A senior Palestinian official announced on Friday that there was a relative drop in the number of infections and deaths from COVID-19 in the Palestinian territories.
Mai al-Kaila, Palestinian minister of health, said in a press statement that the ministry recorded 531 new COVID-19 cases and one death in the last 24 hours.
"A 72-year-old woman from the city of Hebron in southern West Bank died from the virus," al-Kaila said.
"Since the outbreak of the pandemic in Palestine on March 5, the health ministry recorded 21,056 cases, including 116 deaths, 12,796 recovered cases, and 8,144 active cases that receive medical care," al-Kaila added.
She clarified that the COVID-19 recovery rate in the Palestinian territories had reached 60.7 percent.
The minister noted that there are 20 Palestinian patients in critical conditions.
