BEIJING, Aug. 22 (Xinhua) -- The following are the updates on the global fight against the COVID-19 pandemic.

SHANGHAI -- Shanghai reported 13 new imported COVID-19 cases and no increase in domestically-transmitted cases on Friday, the municipal health commission said Saturday.

Twelve imported cases are Chinese nationals working, studying or living overseas, and one is a British national.

BRASILIA -- Brazil saw 131,010 formal jobs added in July, the first uptick in job creation since March, the Ministry of Economy said in a statement on Friday.

With 1,043,650 new hires and 912,640 dismissals, the job additions interrupted the negative sequence that has been observed since March, when the COVID-19 pandemic first hit the country.

WELLINGTON -- There were six new confirmed cases of COVID-19 in New Zealand on Saturday, the Ministry of Health announced in a statement.

According to the ministry, all six new cases were identified as community transmission. Four were epidemiologically linked to an existent cluster in Auckland, with two being household contacts and two being church contacts. The other two cases reported on Saturday were still under investigation.

JERUSALEM -- A team of Chinese and Israeli researchers has devised a novel artificial intelligence (AI) breath analyzer test to detect COVID-19 rapidly, the Israel Institute of Technology (Technion) said Friday.

The new device was developed by Technion researchers, in collaboration with the University of Science and Technology of China, the First Affiliated Hospital of Anhui Medical University and Anhui Provincial Chest Hospital, all three located in the city of Hefei.

MEXICO CITY -- Mexico reported 5,928 new confirmed COVID-19 cases and 504 deaths, bringing the total cases in the country to 549,734 and the death toll to 59,610, its health ministry said Friday.

The epidemic is still worsening as the testing capabilities remain low. The government has said the real infection number is likely significantly higher than reported. Enditem
