BRASILIA -- Brazil saw 131,010 formal jobs added in July, the first uptick in job creation since March, the Ministry of Economy said in a statement on Friday.

With 1,043,650 new hires and 912,640 dismissals, the job additions interrupted the negative sequence that has been observed since March, when the COVID-19 pandemic first hit the country. (Brazil-Jobs)

NEW YORK -- Walmart CEO Doug McMillon said Wednesday he hopes the United States and China will build a "collaborative" relationship amid worsening bilateral relations.

"It's obviously a very important relationship, the relationship between the United States and China. China still plays a important role in our supply chain. HOUSTON -- The number of active drilling rigs in the United States increased by 10 to 254 this week, down by 662 year on year, according to the weekly data released Friday by Houston-based oilfield services company Baker Hughes.

These active drilling rigs included 183 oil rigs operating in the U.S. oil fields, up by 11 from the previous week; 69 gas drilling rigs, down by one from last week; and two miscellaneous rigs, unchanged from last week.

The 254 rigs included 240 land drilling rigs, up by 10 from the previous week, and 13 offshore drilling rigs and one inland water drilling rig, both unchanged from last week. (U.S.-Oil-Rigs)

OTTAWA -- Canadian retail sales soared 23.7 percent in June to 53 billion Canadian dollars (about 40 billion U.S. dollars), according to Statistics Canada on Friday.

After three months of sales below pre-pandemic levels, the country's retail sales in June were 1.3 percent higher than February levels as more regions moved ahead with plans to reopen their economies. (Canada-Economy-Retail Sales) Enditem
