Live COVID-19 updates: South Korea reports 266 more COVID-19 cases, 17,665 in total

BEIJING, Aug. 24 (Xinhua) -- The following are the updates on the global fight against the COVID-19 pandemic.

SEOUL -- South Korea reported 266 more cases of the COVID-19 as of 0:00 a.m. Monday local time compared to 24 hours ago, raising the total number of infections to 17,665.

The daily caseload fell below 300 in four days, but it grew in triple digits for 11 straight days.

BOGOTA -- The Colombian Ministry of Health and Social Protection on Sunday recorded 8,044 new COVID-19 infections and 348 more deaths in the last 24 hours, raising the country's total cases to 541,147 and the death toll to 17,316.

Meanwhile, a total of 374,030 people have recovered from the disease so far, said the ministry.

YANGON -- Myanmar reported 13 more locally transmitted COVID-19 cases on Monday morning, bringing the number of infections to 463 in total, according to a release from the Ministry of Health and Sports.

According to the release, the newly confirmed cases are from Sittwe township of Rakhine state who were under quarantine due to the close contact with recently confirmed patients.

SHANGHAI -- Shanghai reported five new imported COVID-19 cases and no increase in domestically transmitted cases on Sunday, the municipal health commission said Monday.

Four cases are Chinese nationals working or living overseas, and the other is from Taiwan.

BEIJING -- China will give priority to providing COVID-19 vaccines to Mekong countries once a vaccine is developed and put into use, Chinese Premier Li Keqiang said Monday.
