SARAJEVO, Aug. 25 (Xinhua) -- The contract for the construction of a 4.9-km highway section near Sarajevo, the capital of Bosnia and Herzegovina (BiH), was signed on Monday in the headquarters of the public company Motorways owned by the Federation of BiH (FBiH), one of the two BiH entities.

The contract is worth around 78 million euros (92 million U.S. dollars).

The contracted section includes two bridges with an overall length of 1,130 meters and is scheduled to be finished in 20 months.

The section, stretching from the southwest of Sarajevo to the tunnel entrance of Ivan Mountain, is part of the Pan-European Corridor Vc, a 702-km route connecting Hungary and Northeastern Croatia in the north and the Adriatic Sea in the south, via BiH.

More than 335 km of Corridor Vc runs through BiH and 176 km have been completed or are currently being finalized.

According to the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development, the Corridor Vc is to be built by 2030 at a cost of approximately 4 billion euros.

Two Chinese companies -- China State Construction Engineering Corporation Limited and Power Construction Corporation of China -- are currently building one of the highway's sections between Pocitelj and Zvirovici, some 150 km south of Sarajevo. Enditem
