BAMAKO -- Four Malian soldiers were killed on Thursday morning in an ambush in Mali's central region of Mopti, the Malian Armed Forces confirmed on its website.

"An anti-poaching team of the FAMa was ambushed on Thursday, August 27, 2020, around 10:30 a.m., at about 25 km from Konna on the road Konna-Douentza, between Bima and Batouma," the Malian army said, adding that the attack, carried out by terrorists, killed four Malian soldiers and injured 12 others. JUBA -- The United Nations Mission in South Sudan (UNMISS) said Thursday at least 887 civilians were killed in South Sudan between April and June.

The UNMISS human rights division documented more than 417 incidents, involving at least 1,620 civilians in the second quarter of the year, according to a report released in Juba. (South Sudan-Civilian-Violence)

BEIRUT -- Two people were killed on Thursday evening in armed clashes between Sunni Arab tribes and supporters of Shiite parties in south of Lebanese capital Beirut.

LAGOS -- At least 12 people lost their lives in an auto crash in Zamfara, a state in northwestern Nigeria, an official said Thursday.

Faruku Shattima, a spokesperson for the Peoples Democratic Party in Zamfara, who confirmed the incident to reporters in Gusau, the state capital, said the dead were members of the party. (Nigeria-Accident-Crash)

ABUJA -- The Nigerian military on Thursday confirmed at least 128 Boko Haram militants have been killed in separate operations held this month in the country's northeast region.
