Live COVID-19 Updates: India's total infections surpass 3.5 mln

BEIJING, Aug. 30 (Xinhua) -- The following are the updates on the global fight against the COVID-19 pandemic.

NEW DELHI -- India's COVID-19 tally surpassed 3.5 million, rising to 3,542,733 as the death toll rose to 63,498 on Sunday, showed the latest data released by the country's health ministry.

As many as 78,761 new cases and 948 deaths were recorded over the past 24 hours across the country.

SEOUL -- South Korea reported 299 more cases of the COVID-19 as of 12:00 a.m. Sunday local time compared to 24 hours ago, raising the total number of infections to 19,699.

The daily caseload fell below 300 in five days, but it continued to grow in triple digits since Aug. 14.

PARIS -- China and France should upgrade bilateral cooperation to set an example of positive interactions, mutual benefit, win-win outcomes and friendly relations among major countries, visiting Chinese State Councilor and Foreign Minister Wang Yi said here Saturday.

Tackling the COVID-19 pandemic and its severe impact on the world calls for solidarity, Wang said during talks with French Minister for Europe and Foreign Affairs Jean-Yves Le Drian.

WUHAN -- No new confirmed, asymptomatic or suspected cases of COVID-19 were reported in central China's Hubei Province Saturday, the provincial health commission said Sunday.

By Saturday, Hubei had one confirmed imported COVID-19 case.

BUENOS AIRES -- Argentine health authorities said Saturday that a total of 401,239 COVID-19 cases have so far been reported nationwide with 8,353 deaths.

The Health Ministry said that 9,230 cases and 82 deaths were registered over the past 24 hours, after a record daily increase of 11,717 cases a day earlier.

RIO DE JANEIRO -- The Brazilian government said Saturday that 758 deaths were reported over the past 24 hours, bringing to 120,262 the national death toll from COVID-19.

The Health Ministry said that a total of 3,846,153 cases have been reported, up by 41,350 cases from the previous day.

NEW YORK -- Global COVID-19 deaths surpassed 840,000 on Saturday, according to the Center for Systems Science and Engineering (CSSE) at Johns Hopkins University.

With total COVID-19 cases around the world reaching 24,892,543, the death toll worldwide rose to 840,341 as of 6:28 p.m. (2228 GMT), the CSSE data showed. Enditem
