Live COVID-19 updates: Bangladesh reports 1,592 new cases, 32 more deaths

BEIJING, Sept. 6 (Xinhua) -- The following are the updates on the global fight against the COVID-19 pandemic.

DHAKA -- Bangladesh reported 1,592 new COVID-19 cases and 32 new deaths on Sunday, making the tally at 325,157 and death toll at 4,479, the Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS) said.

The official data showed that 11,354 samples were tested in the last 24 hours across Bangladesh.

The total number of recovered patients in the country stood at 221,275 including 3,423 new recoveries on Sunday, said the DGHS.

HONG KONG -- Hong Kong's daily new cases of COVID-19 rebounded to 21 on Sunday, with five identified under the Universal Community Testing Program.

At a press briefing on Sunday afternoon, Hong Kong's Center for Health Protection reported six imported cases and 15 local ones, bringing the tally of confirmed cases to 4,878.

TBILISI -- Georgia confirmed 29 new COVID-19 cases on Sunday, bringing its total to 1,650.

Two of the 29 new cases were imported, the National Center for Disease Control and Public Health said.

As of Sunday, 1,310 of the 1,650 patients have recovered, while 19 others have died, the center said.

KUALA LUMPUR -- Malaysia reported six new COVID-19 infections, bringing the national total to 9,397, the Health Ministry said on Sunday,

Health Ministry Director-General Noor Hisham Abdullah said in a press statement that three of the new cases are imported and three others are local transmissions.

Another two cases have been released, bringing the total cured and discharged to 9,115 or 97 percent of all cases.

JAKARTA -- The COVID-19 cases in Indonesia rose by 3,444 within one day to 194,109, with the death toll adding by 85 to 8,025, the health ministry said on Sunday.

According to the ministry, 2,174 more people were discharged from hospitals, bringing the total number of recovered patients to 138,575.

BEIJING -- A World Health Organization (WHO) expert on Sunday commended China's efforts and hailed its experience in containing the COVID-19 outbreak.

"I appreciate the experience of China," said WHO Representative in China Dr. Gauden Galea, at an international conference for public health cooperation during the ongoing 2020 China International Fair for Trade in Services in Beijing.

MOSCOW -- Russia registered 5,195 new COVID-19 cases in the past 24 hours, taking its caseload to 1,025,505, the country's COVID-19 response center said in a statement Sunday.

Meanwhile, 61 new deaths were reported, taking the death toll to 17,820.

Moscow, the country's worst-hit region, reported 620 new cases, bringing its tally of infections to 266,357, the center said. Enditem
