TRIPOLI, Sept. 7 (Xinhua) -- Spanish Minister of Foreign Affairs Arancha Gonzalez Laya on Monday expressed Spain's support for the UN-backed Libyan government and a cease-fire in Libya.
The Spanish minister made her remarks during a meeting with the UN-backed Libyan Prime Minister Fayez Serraj in the capital Tripoli, said a statement issued by the Libyan prime minister's information office.
"Gonzalez Laya stressed her country's support for the Government of National Accord and the statement of the prime minister issued on Aug. 21 that calls for a cease-fire, disarming the city of Sirte, Jufra district and the oil crescent region, resumption of oil exports, and holding presidential and parliamentary elections in March," the statement said.
"The prime minister gave a brief overview of the developments in Libya and the interference and obstacles facing the political process, which requires a firm international stance," it added.
The meeting also discussed cooperation in various economic and service sectors, as well as activating the joint committees between the two countries, the statement said.
Serraj and Aguila Saleh, the speaker of the eastern-based house of representatives, recently issued statements calling for a cease-fire in the country, reopening the country's oilfields and ports, holding elections, and making the city of Sirte and Jufra district in central Libya demilitarized zone.
