LONDON -- The latest British official figures showed Tuesday that COVID-19 death toll had hit 57,400 as British people are being urged to take the pandemic seriously or face "a bumpy road" ahead.

NEW DELHI -- Four people were killed and five others injured Tuesday after a car collided head-on with a truck in the southern Indian state of Tamil Nadu, state-run broadcaster All India Radio (AIR) said.

The accident took place in Veppur town of Cuddalore district, about 231 km south of Chennai, the capital city of Tamil Nadu. (India-Road-Accident)

ANKARA -- Turkish security forces launched a new operation against the outlawed Kurdistan Workers' Party (PKK) in the eastern city of Van, the interior ministry said Tuesday.

Operation Lightning-10 started with 1,040 security personnel, including forces from Gendarmerie Special Operations, police and security guards, said the ministry in a written statement.

So far, at least 46 PKK members have been killed, 26 collaborators caught, 90 caves, shelters and storages destroyed, and a large number of arms, ammunition and other supplies seized in a series of Lightning operations, according to the ministry. (Turkey-Operation-PKK)

MOGADISHU -- Somali National Army (SNA) on Tuesday killed 14 al-Shabab militants following an early morning attack at the strategic town of Bal'ad, 30 kilometers north of the Somali capital Mogadishu.

Ismael Mukhtar Omar, government spokesman who confirmed the incident, said a government soldier also died in the attack while seven civilians were injured in the latest attack in the Horn of Africa nation by al-Qaida linked terrorist group. (Somalia-Attack) Enditem
