Malaysia reports 24 new COVID-19 cases

KUALA LUMPUR, Sept. 9 (Xinhua) -- Malaysia reported 24 new COVID-19 infections, the Health Ministry said on Wednesday, bringing the national total to 9,583.

Health Ministry Director-General Noor Hisham Abdullah said in a press statement that six of the new cases are imported and 18 are local transmissions.

Of the new cases, 13 were reported from a cluster in Kedah state first found from the health facility, which had spread to neighboring Perlis state.

Meanwhile, seven patients have been released after recovery, bringing the total cured and discharged to 9,143, or 95.4 percent of all cases.

Of the remaining 312 active cases, seven are being held in intensive care and four of those are in need of assisted breathing.

No new deaths have been reported, leaving the total deaths at 128. Enditem
