Afghan gov't negotiating team heads to Doha for talks with Taliban

KABUL, Sept. 11 (Xinhua) -- A 21-member negotiating team of the Afghan government left Kabul for Qatar capital Doha on Friday to hold talks with the Taliban and find a negotiated settlement for its lingering crisis, a statement of the State Ministry for Peace said.

Headed by Mohammad Masoom Stanekzai, the delegation composed of senior government officials, representatives of political parties, religious scholars, women rights activists and members of various segments of society would hold direct talks with the Taliban on Saturday, the statement added.

Chairman of the High Peace Council for National Reconciliation Abdullah Abdullah and Minister for Foreign Affairs Mohammad Hanif Atmar are also accompanying the delegation for the talks to be held on Saturday in Doha. Enditem
