Live COVID-19 updates: One more patient dies in Myanmar, 15 deaths in total

BEIJING, Sept. 12 (Xinhua) -- The following are the updates on the global fight against the COVID-19 pandemic.

YANGON -- One more COVID-19 patient was pronounced dead, bringing Myanmar's death toll to 15 in total so far, according to a release from the Health and Sports Ministry on Saturday.

A 32-year-old female who recently tested for COVID-19 died of acute respiratory failure due to severe pneumonia and kidney failure due to the underlying Systemic lupus erythematosus (SLE) disease on Friday evening, the release said.

QUITO -- Authorities from the city of Guaranda, Ecuador, and the city of Weifang in China's Shandong province have agreed to be united in the battle against COVID-19, the Ecuadoran city's government reported on Friday.

Guaranda Mayor Medardo Chimbolema and Weifang Mayor Tian Qingying signed a Letter of Intent for Twinning and Friendly Cooperation during a videoconference in which they also shared experience in the fight against the virus.

ISTANBUL -- Turkey's biggest city Istanbul on Saturday banned weddings and related ceremonies on boats on the Bosphorus Strait as well as suspended all outdoor concerts and festivals over rising COVID-19 cases.

The Istanbul governor's office said in a statement that the decision was taken to better manage the risk of the pandemic by ensuring social isolation and maintaining the physical distance.

NEW DELHI -- India sai Saturday it registered 97,570 new COVID-19 cases during the past 24 hours, taking the total to 4,659,984, said the federal health ministry.

Besides, 1,201 more deaths were recorded, taking the death toll to 77,472, according to the data. Enditem
