LOS ANGELES -- Two Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department deputies were shot on Saturday night in an apparent ambush and are in critical condition, authorities said.

"One male deputy and one female deputy were ambushed as they sat in their patrol vehicle. Both sustained multiple gunshot wounds and are in critical condition," tweeted the Sheriff's Department. (US-Shooting-Police)

KATHMANDU -- At least nine people died and 22 went missing in two separate landslides at three settlements in Barhabise Municipality of central Sindhupalchowk district, Nepal in the early morning on Sunday, a senior official at the local administration said.

"Nine dead bodies have been recovered from the landslides while search operations are undergoing to find the missing persons," Umesh Kumar Dhakal, chief district officer at the District Administration Office, Sindhupalchowk, told Xinhua on Sunday. (Nepal-Landslides)

KUNDUZ -- Five police officers and four militants were killed after Taliban militants attacked security checkpoints in Afghanistan's northern Kunduz province early Sunday, the provincial police spokesman confirmed.

"The clashes occurred in Shinwari locality on outskirts of provincial capital Kunduz city. The security forces launched a search operation in the area after the fighting," spokesman Esmatullah Khan told Xinhua. (Afghanistan-Attack-Taliban)

ISLAMABAD -- Pakistani army said on Sunday that one civilian was killed and four others were injured in Indian forces' indiscriminate firing along the Line of Control (LoC) in the disputed Kashmir region.
