German shares gain 0.96 pct at start of trading on Monday

BERLIN, Sept. 14 (Xinhua) -- German stocks were off to a good start on Monday, with the benchmark DAX index rising 126.77 points, or 0.96 percent, opening at 13,329.61 points.

After gaining around three percent last week, the DAX index is nearing its pre-COVID-19 levels, coming within reach of its all-time high before markets started crashing around the world in March this year.

The biggest winner among Germany's largest 30 companies at the start of trading was sportswear manufacturer Adidas, increasing by 1.94 percent, followed by plastics specialist Covestro with 1.33 percent and software company SAP with 1.31 percent.

Shares of Munich Re grew by 0.36 percent. The German reinsurer was the least increasing company of the DAX at the start of trading on Monday.

Turnover in Germany's building completion work sector in the second quarter of 2020 increased by three percent year-on-year, Germany's Federal Statistical Office (Destatis) announced on Monday. The number of persons employed in this sector grew as well, increasing by 0.8 percent at the same time.

The yield on German ten-year bonds went down 0.011 percentage point to minus 0.494 percent, and the euro was trading almost unchanged at 1.1841 U.S. dollars, increasing by 0.04 percent on Monday morning. Enditem
