TOKYO, Sept. 15 (Xinhua) -- Tokyo stocks opened lower Tuesday as following the Nikkei's seven-month closing high a day earlier and the yen's appreciation against the U.S. dollar, investors opted to lock in gains.
As of 9:15 a.m., the 225-issue Nikkei Stock Average dropped 183.38 points, or 0.78 percent, from Monday to 23,375.92.
The broader Topix index of all First Section issues on the Tokyo Stock Exchange, meanwhile, fell 12.41 points, or 0.75 percent, at 1,638.69.
Land transportation, iron and steel, and mining-oriented issues comprised those that declined the most in the opening minutes after the morning bell. Enditem
