NEW YORK -- Scientists have detected a gas called "phosphine" in the toxic atmosphere of Venus, which on Earth could originate from presence of life.

In an article published Monday in Nature Astronomy, a group of scientists said they used telescopes in the U.S. state of Hawaii and Chile's Atacama Desert to observe Venus' upper cloud deck, around 60 km from the surface, and traced the apparent presence of phosphine. (Venus-Phosphine-Lifegas.)

KATHMANDU -- The Nepali government has decided to allow resumption of domestic flights and long-distance public ground transport services starting from September 21, after a hiatus of nearly six months, a Nepali cabinet minister said.

The Nepali government had suspended these services in the wake of COVID-19 pandemic in late March. The Nepali government's decision came ahead of major festivals in Nepal, Dashain and Tihar, when people tend to travel faraway places. (Nepal-Flights-COVID-19)

LOS ANGELES -- Video-sharing social networking company TikTok said on Monday that it had submitted a proposal to the U.S. administration to resolve its "security concerns."

"We can confirm that we've submitted a proposal to the Treasury Department which we believe would resolve the Administration's security concerns," the Los Angeles-based company said in a short statement, adding this step would help to continue the company's operation in the future. WASHINGTON -- The U.S. House of Representative could vote on a stopgap funding bill next week to avoid a potential government shutdown when the new fiscal year begins on Oct. 1, House Majority Leader Steny Hoyer said on Monday.

"I want to put it on the floor next week," Hoyer said in an interview with CQ Roll Call. "I want to give the Senate at least a week to pass it. I want to make sure government doesn't shut down." (US-House-Funding Bill) Enditem
