Live COVID-19 Updates: China, ASEAN to focus cooperation on fighting COVID-19 pandemic

BEIJING, Sept. 15 (Xinhua) -- The following are the updates on the global fight against the COVID-19 pandemic.

JAKARTA -- China and the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) will focus their cooperation on fighting the COVID-19 pandemic, Chinese Ambassador to ASEAN Deng Xijun has said.

At a virtual press conference held here on Monday, Deng said that China, which is among the forerunners in the global COVID-19 vaccine research and Development, will further strengthen information sharing with ASEAN countries and conduct cooperation in the vaccine research, development, production and distribution.

DHAKA -- Bangladesh reported 1,724 new COVID-19 cases and 43 new deaths on Tuesday, making the tally at 341,056 and death toll at 4,802, according to the Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS).

The official data showed that 14,050 samples were tested in the last 24 hours across Bangladesh.

MOSCOW -- Russia registered 5,529 new COVID-19 cases in the past 24 hours, taking its total to 1,073,849, the country's COVID-19 response center said in a statement Tuesday.

Meanwhile, 150 new deaths were reported, taking the death toll to 18,785, it said.

HONG KONG -- Hong Kong announced Tuesday its third round of anti-epidemic fund worth about 24 billion Hong Kong dollars (3.1 billion U.S. dollars) in the latest effort to fight COVID-19 and bail out an economy reeling from the epidemic.
