WELLINGTON, Sept. 16 (Xinhua) -- New Zealand reported one new death of COVID-19 on Wednesday, bringing the total deaths to 25.

The man was in his 50s and was a confirmed case of COVID-19 linked to the Auckland cluster. He was admitted to Waikato Hospital on Aug. 19 and was transferred to ICU on Aug. 26. Sadly, he passed away on Tuesday afternoon.

"This man's death again emphasizes the seriousness of the virus and the consequences it can have," said a statement of the Ministry of Health.

"The man's whanau (family) has asked us to tell the country that 'coronavirus is so real' and to be very vigilant and cautious," the statement said.

New Zealand confirmed one new case of COVID-19 on Wednesday, detected in a recent returnee in a managed isolation facility.

Wednesday's new case is a woman in her 30s who arrived from Dubai on Sept. 9, who is related to the three cases reported on Tuesday, according to the ministry.

There are no new community cases to report.

There are three people in the hospital with COVID-19, with two in ICU, it said.

With Wednesday's new case and four additional recovered cases, the total number of active cases in New Zealand is 79. Of those, 27 are imported cases in managed isolation facilities, and 52 are community cases, according to the ministry.

The country's total number of confirmed cases of COVID-19 is now 1,451, which is the number reported to the World Health Organization, it said. Enditem
