TIRANA, Sept. 17 (Xinhua) -- Albania and Switzerland signed an agreement worth 9.6 million Swiss Francs (around 10.5 million U.S. dollars) here on Thursday in support of vocational education in Albania.

The agreement, signed by the Albanian Minister of Finance and Economy Anila Denaj and Swiss Ambassador to Albania Adrian Maitre, will support the second phase of the Ability to Work 2019-2023 project.

Following the signing of the agreement, Denaj said in a press release that this is a clear proof that the Ability to Work project is an important link in the chain of reforming the education and vocational training system.

The project, focusing on providers of vocational education and training, will be extended to six regions in Albania, namely, Berat, Lezha, Vlora, Shkodra, Elbasan and Tirana.

Maitre praised the achievements of the first phase of the project, which benefited 9,700 young people and 400 companies accepting 1,400 interns.

"The project Ability to work is expected to affect Albania's economic growth. It aims to support the creation of an Albanian model, which will be inspired by the Swiss model in accordance with European standards," the ambassador said.

According to Denaj's ministry, investments in vocational schools in Albania have increased from 1.5 billion Albanian lek (around 14.3 million U.S. dollars) in 2015 to 3 billion Albanian lek in 2020. Enditem
