KABUL, Sept. 18 (Xinhua) -- Work for the construction of two water canals which began in Baharak district of Afghanistan's northern Badakhshan province one year ago had been completed, a statement of the Ministry for Agriculture, Irrigation and Livestock released here said on Thursday night.

With the completion and inauguration of the canals locally known as "Malang Ab" and "Sakha", 360 hectares of land will be irrigated and dispute will be permanently resolved among farmers over water shortages in the district, the statement added.

Both the canals at a total length of 4.9 km constructed at a cost of 7.2 million afghani (about 100,000 U.S. dollars) will cover more than 1,800 families in the relatively troubled district, the statement further said. Enditem
