Live COVID-19 updates: Russia's confirmed cases up 6,148 to 1,103,399

BEIJING, Sept. 20 (Xinhua) -- The following are the updates on the global fight against the COVID-19 pandemic.

MOSCOW -- Russia has registered 6,148 new COVID-19 cases in the past 24 hours, taking its total to 1,103,399, the country's COVID-19 response center said in a statement Sunday.

Meanwhile, 79 new deaths were reported, taking the death toll to 19,418, it said.

BANDAR SERI BEGAWAN -- Brunei reported no new case of COVID-19 on Sunday with the national tally of cases standing at 145.

It marked the 17th consecutive day without new cases since Sept. 3.

HONG KONG -- Hong Kong reported four new local infections of COVID-19 on Sunday, signaling continued abatement of the third wave of outbreak.

Hong Kong's Center for Health Protection said in a statement that all the local new infections can be traced to previous patients and added that there were also 19 imported cases on Sunday.

MANILA -- The number of confirmed COVID-19 cases in the Philippines surged to 286,743 after the Department of Health (DOH) reported 3,311 new daily cases on Sunday.

The DOH said that the number of recoveries also surged to 229,865 after 20,021 more patients have survived the disease.

CAIRO -- Egypt registered on Saturday night 128 new COVID-19 cases, bringing the total infections in the country to 101,900, said its Health Ministry.

In a statement, the ministry's spokesman Khaled Megahed said 17 patients died from the disease in the past 24 hours, raising the death toll to 5,750. Enditem
