Live COVID-19 updates: Indonesia reports 4,071 newly-confirmed COVID-19 cases, 160 more deaths

BEIJING, Sept. 22 (Xinhua) -- The following are the updates on the global fight against the COVID-19 pandemic.

JAKARTA -- The COVID-19 cases in Indonesia rose by 4,071 within one day to 252,923, with the death toll adding by 160 to 9,837, the health ministry said on Tuesday.

According to the ministry, 3,501 more people were discharged from hospitals, bringing the total number of recovered patients to 184,298.

ISLAMABAD -- Pakistan has started stage three clinical trials of a China-made vaccine for COVID-19 with the assistance of China, Executive Director of the country's National Institute of Health (NIH) Aamer Ikram said on Tuesday.

Addressing a press conference, the official said the vaccine will be administered to 8,000 to 10,000 volunteers across the country and its final results are expected to come out in about six months, following which the country will start administering it to the general public.

SOFIA -- The number of confirmed COVID-19 cases in Bulgaria has reached 19,014 after 151 new infections were reported in the last 24 hours, the health ministry said on its website Tuesday morning.

As many as 30 of the new cases were registered in the country's capital Sofia, bringing the city tally to 5,039, the ministry said.

MOSCOW -- Russia registered 6,215 new COVID-19 cases in the past 24 hours, taking its total to 1,115,810, the country's COVID-19 response center said in a statement Tuesday.

Meanwhile, 160 new deaths were reported, taking the death toll to 19,649, it said.

HONG KONG -- Hong Kong's Center for Health Protection (CHP) reported eight additional confirmed cases of COVID-19 on Tuesday, taking the total confirmed cases to 5,046.

The newly-reported cases include five imported cases and the remaining three epidemiologically linked with local cases.

According to Hong Kong's Hospital Authority, 179 patients are still hospitalized, including 12 in critical condition.

MANILA -- The number of confirmed COVID-19 cases in the Philippines surged to 291,789 after the Department of Health (DOH) reported 1,635 new daily cases on Tuesday, the lowest in 15 days.

The DOH said that the number of recoveries also rose to 230,643 after it reported 450 more patients have survived the disease. Enditem
