Tokyo stocks close down on virus resurgence fears

TOKYO, Sept. 23 (Xinhua) -- Tokyo stocks ended marginally lower Wednesday on renewed concerns over the resurgence of the coronavirus pandemic and the impact new restrictions may have on the pace of global economic recovery.

The 225-issue Nikkei Stock Average shed 13.81 points, or 0.06 percent, from Friday to close the day at 23,346.49.

The broader Topix index of all First Section issues on the Tokyo Stock Exchange, meanwhile, lost 2.17 points, or 0.13 percent, to finish at 1,644.25.

Mining, iron and steel, and nonferrous metal issues comprised those that declined the most by the close of play.

Markets here were closed on Monday and Tuesday for national holidays. Enditem
