KUALA LUMPUR -- Malaysian Prime Minister Muhyiddin Yassin on Wednesday said opposition leader Anwar Ibrahim needs to prove he had gathered the support of a majority of members of parliament, otherwise it would only be an allegation.

Anwar needs to follow the proper ways and processes stipulated by the constitution to prove he had indeed gathered the support of a majority of members of parliament (MPs), Muhyiddin said in a statement. (Malaysia-PM)

ISLAMABAD -- Pakistan's army said Wednesday that two Pakistani soldiers were killed in Indian forces' firing along the Line of Control (LoC) in the disputed Kashmir region.

An army statement said the Indian army initiated "unprovoked ceasefire violation" in Dewa sector along the LoC.

"Pakistan Army responded and target those posts which initiated fire. Reports of substantial damage to Indian post and men and material," said the statement from the army's media wing, the Inter-Services Public Relations. (Pakistan-LoC)

CANBERRA -- Australia's national security agency has reported a significant increase in the number of right-wing extremists it has under surveillance.

Heather Cook, the deputy director-general of the Australian Security Intelligence Organization (ASIO), told parliament's joint intelligence and security committee on Tuesday that far-right extremism now accounts for 30 to 40 percent of the agency's caseload compared to 10 to 15 percent in 2016. MANILA -- The number of confirmed COVID-19 cases in the Philippines surged to 294,591 after the Department of Health (DOH) reported 2,833 new daily cases on Wednesday.

The DOH said that the number of recoveries also rose to 231,373 after 765 more patients have recovered.
